The War In Heaven

Have you ever wondered where evil came from? The Genesis account of creation records God assessment of everything as very good

You can bet that if God says something is good, then it must be good. So sin and evil must have originated elsewhere other than the Garden of Eden. We may get an idea when we study about a war that was fought in heaven.

We raised the question, "Will there be fighting in heaven?" and attempted an answer. That question was prompted by the revelation that there was a terrible civil war in heaven (see Revelation 12:7).

The Bible makes it clear that there was war in heaven. Just as we (humans) were made with free wills - we are free to choose to do anything we want to do - so the angels God made are free.

Lucifer, once the highest-ranking angel in heaven, covet Jesus for the worship and adoration He received as God of the universe. (Read Isaiah 14:12 - 17.

This passage explains how sin came about. It is ironic that it originated in heaven! But that's the great cost of freedom. It's either 'robots' - programmed to do whatever God wants, OR created beings free to do what they wish.

In love made, God made the angels and mankind totally free to choose to follow Him or not. God does not force His creatures into submission to Him.

The battle comes to earth

The Bible further describes how the insurgence was quelled - and the battle spread to earth. (Read Ezekiel 32:18).

Isaiah 14:12-17

14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

14:17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
