Same-sex Marriage - Do you share my cosmic view about the issue?

From a Biblical perspective, homosexuality is not new. One account that is very loud about the issue is found in Genesis 19. Verse 5 of that chapter tell how the homosexual men of Sodom tried to lure Lot's visitors into sexual activity.

God, is beyond political correctness and mankind's fallibility, meted severe punishment (blindness) and then death by fire on those Sodomites.

There are two main points I need to stress:

  • God is a loving God, he loves us all - regardless of how far short of His standard we find ourselves.
  • God does not change, and will not change His principles to fit mankind's sinful slide

Same-sex marriage is not the same as marriage

It's amazing how this Edenic institution of marriage gets attacked all the time. Do humans have the ability to improve upon the intention of the Creator?

The Bible defines and exemplifies the marriage relationship as the coming together of one man and one woman - forsaking all others (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5). It's the union of masculine and feminine genders, not "same-sex".

Throughout recorded history, we have tried polygamy, celibacy, and all sorts of deviant practices different from that which we were created. Now are we trying to equate our twisted arrangements to the straight and plain divine pronouncement?

Part of the Sin Problem

The idea of same-sex unions is a result of sin. That's the cosmic view. That's the broadest explanation. It's part of the huge mess we're in, called the great controversy.

So although the compulsions are real, they are not natural. Society may treat the practice as "normal", but things that are normal for us may be hideous to God - like destroying our body "temple" by our poor health habits.

Habits that we may find socially acceptable, or popular, remain hideous in the sight of our Creator. Think about this right now...

They say the homosexual has the similar feelings as the non-homosexual. So what? Can the kleptomaniac tell God that "the compulsion was too strong, that's why I steal everything I see?" No.

Was Adam's excuse for eating the forbidden fruit acceptable to God? (He said that the woman God gave him made him sinned). No way.

It doesn't matter how real or how 'strong' our bent to sinning is, God offers strength to overcome. If homosexuality is your test you can pass it. If stealing is, you can pass that too - with God's help.

Like a Misnomer

The term same-sex marriage is like a misnomer. It's like stacking three slices of bread and calling it a sandwich. Well, maybe that gives you a "bread sandwich", but I am sure that's not what the sandwich inventor had in mind.

Keep on eating your bread sandwich and you miss out on the dietary balance that comes with a cheese sandwich, for example.

You cannot call the gold-plated "pure gold' - no matter the resemblance or the acceptance. Only gold is gold. And God does not change His standard (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8). So we shouldn't expect Him to "get modern".

Who is it that's not entering the kingdom?

In I Corinthians 6:9, the Bible lists a few categories of people who will not make it to heaven; not without a change of life. The text says,

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders..." (NIV)

It's stunningly clear how offensive homosexuality, and all other kinds of sexual immorality, is to God.

God's word is clear, and we cannot and should not determine what is morally acceptable, reasonable, or normal by sampling popular opinions.

Human-Divine Marriage - The Answer

We all suffer from the physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and social effects of the sin problem. Our efforts should be - especially as Christians - to try to break the chain of sin, instead of trying to gain human and society's acceptance of our maladies.

The acceptance of same-sex marriage as a norm in our society is an indication of the increasing and severe degeneration by sin in the end times.

All those who want to resist sin's destructive grasp now and escape it's dominion completely and permanently, will accept the invitation extended to every sinner today:

God is saying,

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. - Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)

This is heaven's hope for you and me.
