The antichrist - Is he here yet?

We have seen how the text in Daniel 9:27 has been misapplied. We note that it does not refer at all to the antichrist, but to Christ!

It is a grave mistake made by those who advocate the rapture-tribulation-revelation sequence theory and millions of Christians who carelessly do not search their Bibles for themselves.

A great Bible scholar I know usually says, "A text taken out of context is a pretext". This means we are to study the context of the passage we are reading in order to arrive at the lesson God is trying to teach us.

The Antichrist According to Rapturists

According to those who teach the rapture theory, antichrist will appear after the rapture of the church which takes place some seven years before the end of the world.

Second Thessalonians 2:1-4 says...

1Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. 3Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness [sin] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

Do not miss these points from the passage:

  1. The antichrist will be revealed [unmasked, or exposed] before the coming of Christ. Paul says, "that day" [speaking of the coming of the Lord], will not come until the rebellion occurs and the antichrist has been revealed.
  2. The day of Christ's coming is near. Throughout the Bible, the day of the Coming of Christ has always been stated with urgency.
  3. Then in verse 7 (not in the above verses), we read that "antichrist had already come in Paul's day. This may be surprising, but it's there!

"For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way." - 2 Thessalonians 2:7, (NIV)

Then verse 8 says that he will be destroyed. But, here is another verse...

"But every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world." - 1 John 4:3 (NIV)

That's as plain as my name. Antichrist, whom you heard is coming, is already here. Now that was from the first century! It is now the twenty-first century.

Friend, don't be surprised that there are inconsistencies and misinterpretations in the teachings of scripture. Another thing you should realize is that half-truths and untruths may be easier to take and often are more popular than truth.
